Blog #2 - Dichroic Glass
Ran into this image searching the interwebs for "Light and Glass". This architect used panes of dichroic glass as a skylight to create this effect. If the word 'dichroic' sounds familiar, that is because we've heard it before. We learned in class that dichroic glass is now more commonly used in reflectors than just aluminum. Dichroic glass is made by stacking layers of glass and micro-layers of metals or oxides. What makes this glass so fascinating is that due to the layers of glass and metals it displays different colors of light depending on the type of light and intensity. The architect chose to use dichroic glass as the skylight because the colors vary depending on the time of day and the season! I want a dichroic glass skylight now.
