This is Aphrodite, my betta fish, and this photo is special for a few different characteristics. Often fish tanks have LED or florescent lighting that illuminates the tank. For my tank, the florescent tube above the tank gives the fish and the area surrounding areas a vibrant glow. Betta fish are known for their beautiful colors but, with this specific lighting, the purples, reds, and blues in this photo come to life. Also, I took this photo near the edge of the tank. The head of the fish and the gravel at the bottom are stretched out because of the curvature of the tank. This affects how the camera and our eyes perceive what we are looking at. Also, if this photo was taken a few inches away, you would see the reflection of the fish, decor, and light at the top of the water. Finally, I purchased Aphrodite on my first day of college. Four years later she has been through a lot with me and gives me a sense of comfort, peace, and happiness. When I look at this photo I can’t help but smile. Lighting may bring out the imperfections of the pale color blended with her head or a tattered fin but she’s a friend and the photo and lighting bring her to life.
