This is a photo of a display from a pumpkin patch I worked at in October. The pumpkin patch wanted people to post about it on social media, so they created a lot of displays such as this one in the hopes that people would take photos there. As this was created for a theme park experience, the lighting of this display serves to support the mood of the pumpkin patch, thus the lighting designer (Chelsea Kasen) used smoke to blur the light and make the make the display more eerie. The blue and purple hues in the light also add to this creepy vibe, whereas the bright white adds a stark contrast to highlight the presence of the main pumpkin in the middle. I cannot see where the physical lights are in this photo, but based on the shadows it looks like there is one front light aimed at the pumpkin's face and some colored backlights to light up the rest of the box. There are also some small string lights surrounding the gate and small lights planted inside the tiny pumpkins to make them glow from the inside and illuminate the designs on them. I love Halloween and I feel the lighting in this display captured both the eeriness and whimsy of the holiday. I thought it was really fun!
