Blog Post #2

Hello everyone!
For Blog #2, I wanted to share this lighting design from an abstract french show called Swamp Club which is about an artist's refuge that is later threatened by some sort of outside force to which the residents are put through a defense training. The production design and direction are by Philippe Quesne with non-specific design help by Yvan Clédat, and Cyril Gomez-Mathieu. Interestingly, there are no specific design titles like Lighting Designer so I just added the production design team list although it would've been nice to list specific artists. This design caught my eye due to its use or emphasis on complementary colors, red and green, as well as the distinct contrast of brightness on the inside and darkness on the outside. The warm, tinted red pops along with the semi-cold green, I really like the color palette in this scene. In addition to the use of fog which adds a mysterious or eerie feel to the environment almost like knowing a murderer is outside of someone's home during a scary movie. Furthermore, I do like the accent light on the grass that is inside of the little house with the rest of it getting semi-lit by the up light of the house. Plus, this design as a whole gives me a Wes Anderson aesthetic to it.
