Blog #2
For this blog post, I chose to use a dance picture from Mr. McKayle's last rep show two years ago, BitterSweet Farewell. This piece shares the same name, and was created two years before Mr. McKayle's passing and this particular performance. The piece is about his experience watching loved ones, family and friends, pass away while he still remained on Earth. The dance has a sort of mysticism to it, exploring his own feelings and connections to those who are gone, yet he can still remember and feel.
In one of our first lectures we talked about the use of color and intensity as a tool to create an emotional setting. I chose this picture because I think it exemplifies the themes the dance explores through the use of the color green, this complexity of the varying intensity of the light and the shapes/shading the gobo adds to the stage and the dancer's bodies.
