Golden Hour

Golden Hour

Lately on the internet, there's been a trend of 'golden hour' lighting. That pre-sunset, warm yellow sky reflects a beautiful glow that make our pictures look extra great.
Here is a photo of my dog, Leo, basking in the golden hour light.

There are a few things that make this picture so lovely lighting wise, one of them being the color. You could say yellow or orange, but it truly seems to be a sweet, honey gold. To know this is literally just light from the sun is mind blowing. I love how this golden light seems to gently crawl on all objects in this photo. My dog's soft coat seems to have its own glow from the outline the light is giving it. The grass and weeds in this field show where some light is reaching into the grass and some spots where the light cannot. Another interesting factor is that some of the hills in the back are lit and some are not. It shows the vast contrast between where the sun is shining and where it is still shaded. I love the lens flare in the top right corner - lens flares can look so charming when in the right context! There is a soft sunset creeping up behind the hills in this picture - it is a really subtle color change that I like, Lastly, I think the concentration of light in the upper right corner is also a dynamic part of this image. It seems to be especially intense because  of the way the sun was hitting the camera. It also brings a really high contrast to the hills behind it, making the hills essentially a silhouette. All of these factors make the image feel warm, comforting, and calm. Whenever I see this picture, I imagine a feeling of pure, still calmness. And the fact that there's a dog in it is even more comforting!!
