I am very excited to share some photos of lighting design that I find to be intriguing from my lighting design Pinterest board! This piece is by Swiss artist, Lori Hersberger. He delves into a lot of artistic mediums like sculpture, painter, multimedia and more. Here is one of his pieces called Phantomstudies (2008) that is or was on display at Musée d'art Contemporain Lyon(MAC)a contemporary art museum located in Lyon, France. I find the aesthetic of the piece enthralling, haunting, powerful, and beautiful. Side note, this piece excites me about design and art and how striking and compelling it can be. As I studied the photo more I got a sinister feel due to the dark reflective, broken glass on the floor that feels like it is a puddle of some matter that is planning to take over the space of the room that is not already black. The darkness of the room really brings out the saturation of the red lighting which makes the color even more powerful than it already is. I also really like the geometric shapes of the light fixtures that accentuate the room but also makes you feel like the walls are floating or that the space presented is not all there. This is a great example of an immersive space since no matter where you go the vividness of the neon light and color will demand your attention and surround you in its presence wherever you are in the room.
