I found this image on Pinterest, and it immediately caught my eye. The lighting design of this wall thoroughly adhered to the specific goals of architectural lighting: emphasizing surfaces with an artistic effect and creating a particular mood effect. Firstly, by placing that beam of light underneath the unique shape towards the top of the wall (resembling a lightning bolt) was a smart choice of space and surface revelation. This beam of light, which is what engaged me into the picture, is almost underneath/behind part of the sculptural ceiling, creating an effect that makes the spectator wonder if there is something there. Particularly because to the right there is a further opening in the ceiling, that could make it possible for there to be some form of a sculpture around where that beam of light is. This creates a mysterious and intriguing environment, that made me want to see more and find where the source of light was coming from. Since this space is the lobby of a Spa, it is smart advertising to enhance the visitors to want more. In addition, the color and intensity of the light, creating a harsh glimpse of light beneath the sculptural aspect, heightened that sense of wonder that I felt when first looking at it. Also the choice of light, using LED light to create a more intense neon image, added even more engagement to that particular location in the wall.
