While vivid images can be very compelling, I found this image and its lack of light to have a sense of mystery to it.  For most of us, this is not an unfamiliar scene. We see these sets all the time in movies and TV shows. Thrillers that want to give us a sense of suspense.  They evoke in us a feeling of eerieness and uncertainty, always worried about what will be around the next bend, the next corner. The fascinating thing that I didn’t always recognize before is that we owe it all to the space, its angles and its relationship to lighting.  For this space specifically, we can see that we are viewing a long hallway or corridor. Where the photographer stood, there seems to be no light. While in the distance, there are spooky orange and amber lights that dimly light the hall beyond. The faint lighting allows us to only see parts of the hallway, the other parts are in the shadows, causing us as observers to wonder and fear those areas.  What we can’t see fears us because we are scared of danger, and it is not until we see in the light that there is nothing that our fears subside.
