Purple Haze Blog #4
BLOG #4 Purple Haze
This image is one that I took while I was in the audio crew for UC Irvine's production of Company in the fall. Every night, I got to watch Kathy's dance solo from the side legs and would always be mesmerized by the colorful light cues used. I love the punchy purple used here, and how much haze was used to achieve this dreamy, other-worldly feeling as she dances above Bobby. I love that from this angle, you can't see her face but her figure is silhouetted beautifully. The ends of her hair and fingertips catch the light ever so slightly, giving her a sort of angelic glow. However, the fact that you can't see her face also makes the image very mysterious. This lends itself to the audience understanding that this is most likely a dream in Bobby's head. The bright, 'unrealistic' colors lend itself to being poetically dreamy. I love the slight difference between the deep purple and the purple-blue barely lighting Bobby. I also like the contrast between the darkest points in the picture, and how the haze is really what is letting the purple shine.
