I was drawn to this image due to its abstract shapes and delusional perspectives and more specifically, how light plays an integral role in the shapes and different qualities presented in the piece. In the background of the piece, out of the viewer’s sight, there is an apparent light source. This light source is evident due to its bright rays creeping around the corner of different walls and surfaces throughout the picture. In the picture, the light reflects off of the white surfaces of the structure and depending on the angle of reflection, the tones that reflect off of the white structure change, presenting different light qualities. Specifically, those shapes in the picture that appear closer, or in the foreground, are not as well lit. It seems like they are only receiving light from the other reflected surfaces of the picture, specifically the shapes and layers that appear farther back. The middle ground seems to be the area reflecting the most light, giving off a bright blue quality. From there, the foreground catches this light in the form of a blue-green glow. When observing this picture, it is clear that the light source is hidden, however, what puzzles me most is the sense of color the picture seems to be presenting. I am curious about this because the light is reflecting off of white walls and not colored ones. I begin to wonder what is causing this casting of color? Is the light source perhaps not giving off warmer light but instead cooler tones?
